Officials say light rail safe despite attack

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a man who robbed a 16-year-old Tuesday night at the Seventh Street Station stop along the light rail line in Uptown Charlotte. The incident happened shortly after 8:15 p.m. A police report said the suspect forced the teen to by a train ticket then took him to an ATM to check his account balance, but the man was not able to get any money.

Some good economic news came Friday as the unemployment rate dropped to nearly 8.5 percent, while the private business sector added more than 243,000 jobs in January. That good news helped the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which gained 157 points and closed at the highest level since 2008. The S&P rose 19 points, and the NASDAQ was up 46 points.
